I loved the exposure we received during this rotation since it allowed us to evaluate patients in both an inpatient hospital and an outpatient clinic setting. I appreciate how hands-on it was and how we could examine and evaluate patients, actively participate in their diagnosis and treatment plans, and perform procedures like EMGs under supervision…
Being a part of this rotation taught me a lot. It aided in my personal and professional development as a clinician….I would, without a doubt, recommend this rotation to a colleague because I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Dr. Calimag and his team.
Dr. Calimag’s approach to patient care was unique and innovative. He always put the patients at ease and made the visit enjoyable and educational. I was able to boost both my clinical knowledge and skills while working under his guidance. My understanding of the US healthcare system was expanded by our exposure to a variety of procedures, including EMGs and EEGs, clinic and inpatient hospital settings, and interactions with ancillary hospital staff. We also received constructive feedback, which helped me improve both as an individual and a clinician.
Additionally, I appreciate that Andrew went out of his way to advise us on how to improve our application and present ourselves during our interviews.
Graduated from S.S. Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in India.
While doing the neurology rotation with USCEMATCH in Chicago, I always dreamed of having a successful journey and matching in a residency position. I love Doctor Calimag's wisdom, knowledge, and excellent patient care, the active role of the students in the patient care and procedures (EMG, NCVs). made this neurology rotation highly commendable.
I strongly recommend Andrew's Interview workshop. The teamwork of the whole group and staff. Also, mostly Dr. Calimag's wisdom, mentorship, and lessons gave me the tools to grow and match in a residency position.
It is an excellent opportunity to grow as a professional and challenge yourself as a human being; Dr. Calimag, Saint Anthony's staff, and Andrew’s commitment and Bria’s kindness they treated me like a family.
I absolutely would recommend the rotation.
Graduated from Universidad Mayor de San Simón in Bolivia.
I loved the hands-on experience I got, including neurological examination, nerve conduction studies, and access to the EMR. We also had good clinical exposure to both inpatient and outpatient neurology settings.
It was an excellent opportunity to learn from the most experienced and generous neurologist Dr. Calimag.
This was an excellent opportunity for aspiring neurologists like me, and I would totally recommend it to my friends who are interested in neurology.
Graduated from Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College in India.
I loved the variety of cases we encountered during our rotation such as stroke, carpal tunnel syndrome, seizures, and myasthenia gravis and how we were very hands-on with Dr. Calimag’s patients.
I loved how Dr Calimag was willing to teach us key points for diagnosis and treatment as well as exposing us to some neurology tests. I also loved how we both have outpatient and inpatient experiences so we can learn the slight nuances with outpatient and bedside physical exam.
My experience with Dr Calimag and USCEMATCH has been very good, and I strongly recommend it.This rotation sharpened my clinical acumen and communication skills. We were hands on with the patients and we were exposed to some of the most common cases doctors deal with every day. We dealt with patients from different walks of life and had a lot of learning opportunities.
I would definitely recommend doing this neurology rotation with Dr Calimag and I absolutely trust USCEMATCH.
Graduated from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center in the Philippines.
I appreciate how flexible Dr. Calimag was with our schedule. I improved my neurological physical exam significantly during my time there. Dr. Calimag’s humor with the patients often lightened up the mood and did not go unnoticed. Also, being able to assist and conduct nerve conduction studies as well as EMGs was most enjoyable.
There were a lot of learning opportunities with every patient encounter. I was able to observe interactions with patients at St. Anthony’s as well as in the Park Ridge clinic, where we assisted in conducting and interpreting many nerve conduction studies and electromyography
Dr. Calimag was always willing to answer questions, whether simple or complex and greatly improved my neurological physical examination through sheer exposure and practice whenever it was available.
Graduated from University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, College of Medicine in the Philippines.
The thing that I appreciated the most during my short stay was how genuine and warm the people were in that humble clinic along Dempster Street. This was aside from having a hands-on rotation that genuinely wanted us to learn!
I really felt at home. The after-clinic sessions with Andrew. These sessions were great and productive after a difficult clinic day. I really appreciated how Andrew tried to help us with the intangibles that are as much as important as the grades we get in exams, in my honest opinion.
The rotation was a great experience and went over and beyond my expectations; I truly felt that they wanted nothing but the best for us, both in professional development and personal growth. They showed it through so many things, from Dr. Calimag pretending to be a patient so that we could perform procedures on him (despite it being a “shocking experience”) to Andrew going beyond his duties to help prepare us not only for the match (by urging us to know ourselves deeper) but also teaching the “other” side of practice which is every bit as important as having impeccable clinical acumen.
Definitely a must-have for everyone who wants a true hands-on experience with a lot of fun, great (free?) food, and love in between!
Graduated from FEU-NRMF Institute of Medicine in the Philippines.
My rotation with Dr. Calimag and Andrew at USCEMATCH was an incredible learning experience that gave me the opportunity to become part of the neurologic healthcare team in both the outpatient and inpatient settings.During my time there, I had the privilege of working with a variety of patients, from those with acute neurological issues to those with chronic conditions, and I was able to interview them, clinically examine them, document my findings in the chart and electronic medical records, manage their care, and provide healthcare teachings.
One of the things I loved about this rotation was the diversity of the team. Working with people from different cultures and backgrounds not only made the experience more enjoyable but also taught me about different approaches to patient care. I was able to learn from my colleagues and also contribute to the team's overall learning.
Andrew provided us with excellent guidance throughout the rotation, helping us understand the expectations and how to go about the residency application process. He was always available to answer any questions we had and provided constructive feedback that helped me improve my skills. In addition, this rotation allowed me to build my professional network.
Through my interactions with Dr. Calimag, Andrew, and the other team members, I connected with other medical professionals in the field of neurology.
This will undoubtedly be a valuable asset as I continue my career in medicine.
Overall, this rotation was a well-rounded experience that prepared me for future medical practice. I learned a great deal about the healthcare system in the United States, gained a new appreciation for the importance of cultural competency in patient care, and built my professional network.I highly recommend this rotation to anyone looking for an enriching and challenging experience in medicine.
Graduated from Davao Medical School Foundation College of Medicine in the Philippines
My structured one-on-one interview prep with Andrew boosted my confidence and helped me present myself even better for the interview season.
The interview phase was a crucial part of my application process; having no USCE, it was ultimately necessary for me to give 101% of my best effort for every interview.
Andrew taught me how to connect spontaneously better and be more conversational with the interviewer. He showed me how to develop professional comportment that compliments my best attributes, and he shared his best practices to help me stand out, which was very effective. His sales experience enabled him to show me how to sell myself humbly during the interview. We discussed in detail the core questions, different types of questions, and how best to curate an adequate response.
I appreciated the honest and unbiased feedback and how Andrew went above and beyond in helping me review my application, the CV, to prepare for any questions that might be asked.
I can wholly describe myself as very satisfied and highly recommend Andrew and his team!
Graduated from St. Luke’s College of Medicine-William H. Quasha Memorial in the Philippines.
My clinical rotation with Dr. Calimag was wonderful! He is an amazing and very down-to-earth person, the type of attending any physician in training can seek to emulate as a role model.
The hands-on clinical experience working with Dr. Calimag allowed me to learn so much about the US healthcare system, and this certainly helped my CV when applying for residency. This was truly a wonderful and eye-opening experience for clinical practice in neurology and the United States as a whole.
The entire team showed me nothing but kindness and a genuine interest in helping me learn and further my career. I truly appreciated everything that I gained from this experience. I would like to thank Dr. Calimag, Andrew and the team for a truly beneficial and great experience.
I would 110% recommend this clinical experience for IMGs.
Graduated from University Of The West Indies, in Jamaica
I loved the hands-on interaction with the patients and was allowed to examine them and discuss their disease and treatment plans with them. I also enjoyed doing EMG/ NCS with the doctor. Dr Calimag is super friendly, always values our opinions, and enlightens us with his valuable experience. I learned a lot from how he explained complicated things to the patients in a simplified manner without using medical jargon.
Adding that to my clinical skills made a huge impact. I felt the patients were more confident about the diagnosis. I had a wonderful experience during this rotation. The doctor is very receptive to students' opinions and answers all our questions. We were given a chance to present the case. I wanted to write a case report with colleagues and a doctor, and he provided us with all the information needed. I have never seen patients with migraine being so satisfied with their treatment. I aspire to be like Dr. Calimag.
Graduated from King Edward Medical University in Lahore, Pakistan
My rotation with Dr. Calimag was filled with compelling cases you've only ever heard of when studying for the steps. As a generalist, he sees them all.
During my time, I was able to do procedures, learn how to interpret EMGs and EEGs, and perform neuro exams on my own. I got to study during the downtime too, which was very helpful for the steps. Overall, the vibe was very relaxed. Everyone in that clinic was very friendly, extra helpful, and they kept feeding us. :)
This rotation made me fall in love with Neurology. It was an excellent resource for learning, connections, and friendships. I would highly recommend it!
Graduated from University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical
Center in the Philippines.
Dr. Calimag made this rotation very interactive and compelling. I liked that we were able to perform complete Neuro exams on each patient, and each student had an opportunity to do so.
Dr. Calimag is very well-liked by his patients, so it has always been a great experience to be a part of that. If you are interested in Neurology, as I was, you will thrive under Dr. Calimag’s guidance.
Graduated from Caribbean Medical University School of Medicine
I had a great time. I was here for a neurology experience and a good LOR, and I got much more out of this rotation. Dr. Calimag was a fantastic person to learn from and hang out with. This rotation is half inpatient and half outpatient. Outpatient includes dedicated two half days of EMG and NCV.
The experience is VERY hands-on. I would suggest living near the office in Park Ridge. The housing they recommend is really cheap and great. The landlady was excellent; she even picked me up from the airport and drove me for groceries. The office has a dedicated room for students to sit and a pantry with snacks and coffee (which is also free for students). We also got several lunches from pharmaceutical reps. All this goes to say that you will be well taken care of!
I was very emotional on the last day. I thoroughly enjoyed the hospital days and EMGs. I loved the company, the long drives, the office music, and the several meals we had together as a team. More than anything, I feel like I have made friends for a lifetime. It was honestly a lot more than just a rotation for me. The amount of personal time I spent with Dr. Calimag.
Unlike most rotations, I spent almost the whole day with him, which was great. We traveled and even ate together. I learned a lot more and gave him a chance to know me as a personal friend, not just a student, while we see patients.
Additionally, I received an excellent LOR. I know this for a fact because it was praised in multiple interviews, and the program directors/interviewers seemed to be very impressed with me.
Graduated from Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College, in Mumbai, India
During this rotation, I took the history and neuro physical examinations for the patients with Dr. Calimag. While Dr. Calimag was doing his physical neuro examination, he would ask me questions about the neurological medical conditions, the treatment plans, and the next follow up plans regarding the patients. I also got the chance to do nerve conduction tests, EMGs, and EEGs for the patients under the doctor's supervision. We would go over the different CT scans, X- rays, and MRIs regarding the patient's neurological medical conditions and discuss with the patients on the next best step in therapeutic treatment plans.
Overall, Dr. Calimag’s neurology elective rotation was an great learning experience and I will forever remember that rotation for the rest of my life.
Based on my interviews, my interviewees told me Dr. Calimag spoke very highly of me during his neurology elective rotation in his letter of recommendation he wrote for me.
I really appreciate that he vouched for me to become a family medicine resident physician.
Lastly, out of all the clinical preceptors I rotated with, Dr. Calimag took me out for lunch during my last week for the neurology rotation with his neurology medical assistant. I really appreciate that because no other clinical preceptor would do that for me, but he did it for me as he saw potential in me as a future family medicine physician.
In the end, if I had to recommend to a medical student who wanted to do neurology rotation or pursue neurology residency, I would highly recommend him as my top choice for neurologists.
Graduated from Washington University of Health and Science
I love the neurology rotation with Dr Calimag, I had a memorable and very hands-on experience. The sense of community and camaraderie is palpable with USCEMATCH, especially with Dr. Calimag, Andrew, and Bria.
I felt like I had found forever colleagues, friends, and family. I was able to hone my skillset which boosted my confidence to be better prepared for residency. I also appreciated how organized the process was from the beginning to the end.
Plus, to mention the undying support that you can get from USCEMATCH, especially on the interview preparations which I highly recommend you get with them. Please do not take the interview prep for granted.
From the first day I signed up to the last day that I matched- they stood by me, and they were my cheering squad. I am forever grateful for their support and genuine care in helping IMGs all around the world have a fantastic USCE and excellent assistance in the match.
I would rate it 11 out of 10 for USCEMATCH! Highly recommended!

What I liked the most about the rotation was the commitment of Dr Calimag to make the students comfortable.
I have had 12 rotations, and I have never encountered such a friendly doctor. The staff was also very nice, including you Andrew, you are the first one I am friends with on Instagram, and that is because of how nice you are.
Outpatient: The rotation has a good flow of patient for the outpatient
learning.
Hands On: Limiting the rotation to 5 students allows good learning for the students to conduct physical exam and interview.
Graduated from Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador.
Saying that my neurology rotation under Dr. Calimag was incredible is an understatement!
As a medical student, I was deeply terrified of the specialty. It was one of the most challenging fields for me and entailed a very detailed examination. However, Dr. Calimag has changed my perspective from fear to awe. He made it look easy and, quite honestly, fun. He was a willing and approachable educator. He always kept us motivated to learn.
With hands-on experience not only with patients but with procedures like EEG tracing readings and EMG studies, I significantly broadened my clinical knowledge in the field. With his guidance, I refined my skills and consistently challenged myself in an environment different from my home country. This has helped me develop greater confidence in myself as a clinician in dealing with common neurologic conditions.
Even though I know I will be practicing in a different field, I am optimistic that what I learned during my time with Dr. Calimag will benefit my clinical practice. Not only was Dr. Calimag an excellent resource for medical knowledge, but he was also a perfect role model in his bedside manners. He had a way with his patients—genuine, refreshing, and humorous. Watching him work with his patients, colleagues, and staff helped me build the “future doctor” I aspire to be. His experience as a Filipino doctor in the US inspires all IMGs that with hard work and diligence, though filled with significant challenges, becoming a practicing physician in the US is not impossible.
I want to give a massive shout-out to Andrew for being a tremendous blessing during what I can say is probably the most stressful part of my journey.
When it was time for me to go through the Match Application process, they stood by my side, always willing to help and give guidance. Looking back, the whole endeavor definitely was a valuable steppingstone in my journey.
No words could ever express my gratitude for Dr. Calimag, Andrew, and the whole experience. I highly recommend this rotation to anybody working hard towards the dream of getting “Matched” in the future.
Graduated from University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, College of Medicine in the Philippines.
The thing I love the most during the rotation is the opportunity to experience the US healthcare system both in the hospital and clinic setting. Dr. Calimag, Andrew, Bria, and Dinorah are very approachable, so we had no problems adjusting to the new environment.
It definitely exceeds my expectations! I’ll give it an 11/10.
Graduated from Far Eastern University- Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation in the Philippines.
I love how hands-on it is!
I ended up performing and assessing over 50 EMGs and learned so much about the nerves and muscles of the body through that. Learned a lot about the finesse of the neuro exam as well, from performing it on so many patients. I eventually started surprising myself with how much I could find out about the patient by doing the whole exam properly.
It’s a great rotation. The doctor and his staff create a very pleasant and thriving atmosphere. The location of the clinic, plus going to three separate hospitals in Chicago, exposes you to a lot of demographic diversity in patients, and gives you good insight regarding America’s healthcare system. And the ton of free food you get during your time here is just an extra plus!
Graduated from Ziauddin University in Pakistan
Dr. Calimag did a great job of capturing my interest in neurology through his work.
I appreciated the way he guided case discussions and answered any questions I had. His funny and laid-back personality was unlike any physician I had rotated under before, which made it easier for me to be more involved in discussions and patient interactions. I was intrigued by the tests he conducted, and, to my surprise, after observing, he allowed me to conduct a nerve stimulation test, which I had never seen or done in person.
All in all, I believe my time under Dr. Calimag was beneficial, to say the least. He allowed me to assist in many procedures whenever the opportunity arose. He never exhibited an intimidating tone and created a relaxed environment where it was easy to ask questions without fear of belittlement.
Graduated from University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, College of Medicine in the Philippines.
What I like/love about my rotation with Dr. Calimag and Andrew at USCEMATCH, first the environment- it was very warm and friendly. Secondly, the doctor, staff and my peers made me feel very welcome.
The rotation was also extremely hands – on and I got ample opportunity to hone my neurology examination skills.
Dr. Calimag entrusted me with performing NCS and EMGs under his supervision which led me to believe that he found me competent enough to handle the responsibility.
The best parts were the car rides with Dr. Calimag which allowed us to connect and bond with each other.
I would rate this rotation a 9/10. It was definitely a great rotation with amazing people at the helm.
The points in favor were - affordability, hands-on experience, and positive reviews.
I would absolutely recommend this rotation
Graduated from RAK College of Medical Sciences in the United Arab Emirates.
I enjoyed the hands-on experience I received during this rotation, an opportunity not provided by most rotations.
Within a week of beginning the rotation, I was already performing EMGs on patients under Dr. Calimag’s supervision. I had the opportunity to work both in the inpatient and outpatient setting, during which I encountered patients with a variety of neurological complaints, including rare disorders such as Tolosa-Hunt syndrome and Trigeminal Autonomic Encephalalgias.
Being exposed to such a rare patient population also gave me the chance to work on a Case Report. Towards the end of the 4-week rotation, I was able to successfully perform several comprehensive neurological physical examinations and create accurate differential diagnoses and treatment plans.
The rotation also allowed students to participate in pharmaceutical representative meetings, aiding in expanding knowledge on current and future treatment options for patients. I have had a passion for Neurology since the 4th year of my medical school and this rotation encouraged me further to pursue a residency in Neurology.
Dr. Calimag and his staff at the clinic provided a warm and welcoming environment. I was treated as part of the team and was involved in all activities that took place at the clinic and the other hospitals visited with Dr. Calimag. He encouraged us to provide our opinions on patient diagnosis and treatment plans and used every patient encounter as an opportunity to teach us to improve our quality of care.
Towards the end of the rotation I was comfortable saying that I would be able to perform a detailed neurological examination and perform special tests if needed. I was able to broaden my knowledge of neurological diseases and learn new treatment strategies.
Graduated from Tbilisi State Medical University in Georgia.
I'm very fortunate to do my Neurology clinical rotation with Dr. Calimag. He is a fantastic person and a great teacher! During the four weeks of my rotation, I got a chance to see the most common cases in Neurology, such as seizures, migraine, brain concussion, Parkinson's, Cervical and lumbosacral radiculopathies, TIA, Dementia, Insomnia, Cluster headache, Post herpetic neuralgia, Tenosynovitis, TBI, diabetic neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, Multiple sclerosis, Meralgia Parasthetica, Peripheral neuropathies and also some interesting cases like Marchiafava big-name syndrome, Post COVID Neurological manifestations, Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis, Post Lyme disease syndrome, Pseudotumor cerebral, cervical spinal stenosis, Meningioma, Tourette syndrome, Narcolepsy, absence seizures, PSP, occipital neuralgia, radial nerve injury (wrist drop).
Dr. Calimag also taught us EMG and the basics of EEG. Most importantly, Dr.Calimag is fun-loving and easygoing. He has an excellent staff who makes everything organized and easy right from the start of the rotation till the end.
I want to thank Dr. Calimag for giving me this opportunity; I've learned so much from your experience, advice, and guidance. My time as an observer under you has been a valuable part of my career journey. I'll definitely carry the things I've learned here with me, and I'll always look back on this experience with a lot of fondness.
Graduated from Soochow University Medical College in China
I am truly fortunate to work in Neurology and Neurodiagnostics and USCEMATCH. I am extremely happy that I worked with the best doctor and his team.
I have gained a piece of great knowledge in the field of Neurology, patient-doctor relationships, and EMR. Dr. Calimag was phenomenal in teaching and a humble person. The personal patient care offered by him was excellent. I have a wide range of experience in both outpatient and inpatient approaches.
I have encountered a multitude of cases like Locked-in syndrome in the ICU, Transient ischemic attack, Stroke, Metastasis of breast carcinoma to the brain presented as Multiple sclerosis, and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis inpatient. Cases of Marfan’s syndrome, Cervical and Lumbar Radiculopathy, Meralgia paresthetica, Complex regional pain syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Chronic back pain post-surgery, Dementia Alzheimer’s, Tolosa hunt syndrome, Carpal tunnel, Trigger finger, Foot drop, Migraine, Occipital Neuralgia, Dissociative fugue, Parkinson’s disease, Essential tremors, Tourette syndrome, Seizures- GTCS, Myoclonic epilepsy, Lennox gastaut, Diabetic neuropathy, Hereditary neuropathy, Compressive cervical myelopathy exaggeration post covid vaccination, Post covid fog, Bell’s palsy, Hemiplegia with 7th nerve UMN palsy, Post-Concussion, Hemi facial spasm, Blepharospasm and Empty Sella in the outpatient clinic. Dr. Calimag taught us to do EMG and explained EEG.
Graduated from Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Center, in India
The most I liked about the rotation is how affable the doctor and the people surrounding him (at the clinic and the hospitals) are. I never felt like I was a new junior member of the team, and everyone strives to make it friendly and placid for students especially.
I remember one incident specifically where we were at a dinner party for the first time during my rotation, and we (the students) were sitting a little away from the doctor. The doctor checked if we were comfortable 15 minutes into the dinner, and witnessing his genuine affection for his students won my heart. The other thing I liked was the wide variety of patients we encountered hands-on,both in outpatient and inpatient departments at different levels of care (ie. From a clinic level to tertiary care hospital levels), which is rare to find in a rotation. I can literally go on and on.
The best thing about the rotation was the sheer experience that the doctor possessed and his humor. He would cheer and warm up even the most difficult patients. Every single minute around the doctor, at work and otherwise, was very entertaining, and learning was never so much fun.
I was most impressed with how incredibly hands-on the rotation was and the number of patients I got to examine and discuss with the doctor. I’ve never done an NCV/EMG before this rotation, and at the end of the rotation, I have enough confidence to do it on my own. Another was how we traveled with the doctor everywhere, during which we discussed many patients we saw earlier in the day. Not only that, but the doctor also shared with us what it really was to be a practicing neurologist in reality once we got out of residency. I remember discussing the pros and cons of the profession, the financial aspects, and the amount/type of work we should expect going forward. I could not stress more on this point, which is how the doctor and his staff strive to help their students get into residency.
Not only did they help with learning, but they also helped immensely with the stay, commute, and interview practice. I also cannot miss noting how much my communication skills improved after witnessing doctors' way of talking with patients and how immediately most patients feel comfortable after the doctor starts talking with them.
I also learned a lot from Andrew in that matter; he somehow uses just the right words and sentences when having a different conversation, and that was impressive.
Graduated from Government Medical College, Bhavnagar, India
I highly recommend this rotation, even for students interested only in family medicine or internal medicine.
Dr. Calimag and his team developed an excellent neurology rotation! I learned basic skills, such as becoming more confident in performing the neurological examination. I also had the chance to accompany him during his hospital rounds and assist him with his various procedures. I saw many interesting cases that I have only read about.
Overall, it is a great way to be exposed to a specialty that a PCP (FM/IM) should be able to treat primary cases and know when to refer to a specialist.
Graduated from Angeles University Foundation - School of Medicine in the Philippines.
The experience was a truly holistic view of neurology as opposed to specialization and bang on the buck for everything it was said to be.
The concern shown for us was clearly evident and genuine and we never felt like we knew all guys for only a few weeks. Everyone was going out of the way for us, and it made us feel like we belonged. In the end, it made us feel sad when we were finished, which is the mark of every good thing.
I would rate this experience 10/10 would recommend, as I already have. Anyone even remotely interested in neurology must do this rotation. The wide plethora of cases gives a good idea about what a neurologist swims in.
The hands-on experience at the rotation is unparalleled and it gives precious inpatient experience as well as EMR experience. The doctor and his team are supportive and have our best interests at heart. It is difficult to find someone as generous as Wawa.
You’ll have a great time, not just a great rotation.
Graduated from Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and General Hospital, Mumbai, India.
I am so thrilled to inform you that I have been matched at Albert Einstein Healthcare Network, Neurology in Philadelphia!
My rotation in Chicago was one of my first hands-on Neurology clinical experiences, and I am so proud to have been a student of yours, Dr. Calimag! You treated your students like colleagues and gave us so much confidence in being able to interact with patients. I believe this rotation shaped me not just to be a fantastic physician but also a better human being. I will forever miss your jokes…
And if there is anyone who deserves the credit for so many of us matching into our specialties, it is you, ANDREW! You are a gem of a person, going out of your way to help so many international students out there. The letters you wrote for us and the advice you offered for the applications and interviews were indispensable and crucial to our matching!
Thank you so much for everything you do, and I hope to see you all soon! Congratulations to everyone at the Neurology and Neurodiagnostics clinic for a fantastic result in this year's match cycle!
Graduated from M. S. Ramaiah Medical College in India.
I had my rotation with them when I was still coping with my first unsuccessful match cycle. The experience I got is more than I expected as I've tried other places.
I like that it’s a hands-on experience where I am allowed to do things that I believe will help me with my residency, i.e. honing my neuro exam skills, performing EMG procedures, navigating EMR, and charting on behalf of Dr. Calimag. I also encountered interesting cases like Diabetic oculomotor palsies, Bell’s palsy, Dandy-Walker Syndrome, PD on Duopa, and Lennox Gastaut Syndrome. You will rotate in the hospital and several clinics.
But all in all, I love how encouraging they are, and they really boost my esteem that I have a shot at matching in the residency program. They will try to help you in any way they can when you are in a matching cycle. Very responsive if you have any questions after the rotation. I had to apply twice after doing a rotation with them, and they stayed in touch during the process.
Andrew is also sweet and has helpful tips for you to succeed in the match. I think overall, they care and want people to succeed. I think that is important if you are looking for clinical rotations. Aside from that, I missed hanging out with them- food trips/sightseeing if we finish early in the clinic/hospital. The accommodation they recommended is also awesome. It is very clean, and the owner is so motherly- they will try to pick up/drop you off at the airport. If I go back in time, my only regret is that I should've done it sooner.
If I can go back in time, I will do it earlier. And they were right, I matched in Preliminary Internal Medicine in UAB -Montogmery program and finally matched this year in UConn Neurology Residency program as a 2nd year resident.
Graduated from San Beda University in the Philippines
I count myself fortunate to have met Dr. Calimag and had the experience I did. The rotation is a perfect blend of outpatient and inpatient experiences.
In the clinic, we had hands-on experience from taking patient history, examining and formulating the differential diagnoses to having a chance to observe and assist in NCS & EMG. Ward and ICU rounds at the hospital were highly insightful and a wholesome experience.
The best part is that Dr. Calimag is so humble and treats all his students like colleagues which really helps in boosting our confidence and knowledge. I had a great time working with a diverse group of physicians who stood by me throughout the match process and are now my close friends.
For me, this rotation entails more than just a USCE. It's a family that sticks with you, believes in you, and gives you all the encouragement and fortitude you need until you match.
Andrew stands as a pillar of strength to all the doctors who rotate. He does everything that one could possibly do to help you match, from giving you honest reviews in the kindest way possible, guiding you through the process, and helping you with every step of the process till you match. I
can surely say that I wouldn’t be able to match successfully without Andrew’s support and guidance. I’m forever grateful to Dr. Calimag and Andrew.
